In 1320, Pope John XXII had planted the first vines in CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE. It was only in 1360 that the vine is of some importance, first with the white wine consumed Innocent VI, then with red wine, but these productions remain confidential. This is from the 18 th century the vine occupies the territory and the papal wine begins to be famous.
In 1979, Odile and Alain Jaume continues the family tradition with the creation of GRAND FIELD HUNTSMAN. At its inception, the vineyard s extends over 9 hectares. The cellars are built out of Orange on the road to Chateauneuf du Pape. Over time, the area s' expands to today to 78 hectares of vineyards in appellations CHÂTEAUNEUF THE POPE, LIRAC, COASTS OF RHÔNE "The Champauvins" and COASTS OF THE RHONE.
In 2003, a new vineyard was acquired: the "CLOSED SIXTE" AOC "LIRAC." This name just a few kilometers in front of Châteauneuf du Pape is one of fifteen Cru Rhone Valley. Its soil is certainly one of the most beautiful in the region. The trays are very similar to those of Châteauneuf du Pape. You should know that the river "Rhône" there are millions of years, built the basement on the left bank (Chateauneuf du Pape) and right (Lirac) by depositing the famous sandy clay and pebbles.
During these years, the family has also expanded. Today, Sébastien and Christophe progressively ensure the prosperity of the farm. Associated with the family know-how, they use their knowledge wine and wine to enhance the quality of the soils of the estate.
GRAND DOMAINE VENEUR is located north of the appellation CHÂTEAUNEUF THE POPE, near Orange. It currently consists of a set of plots with a total area of 50 ha which are divided into three designations: CHÂTEAUNEUF THE POPE, THE COASTS RHÔNE "The Champauvins" (along Châteauneuf du Pape) COASTS OF THE RHONE.
Domaine Grand Huntsman "CLOSED SIXTE", located on the right bank of the Rhone in front of Châteauneuf du Pape, covers 28 ha naming LIRAC.
The soil on hillsides and plateaus is composed of a layer of 80 cm to 1 meter of red clay and sand mixed with large pebbles. The basement has a more sandy and drains. The vineyard is composed of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. The vines range from 20 to 40 years.
